Solitude Speedway
Solitude Speedway is a 32’ x 8’ mural made completely out of tape. The mural is currently located at Salt Lake City’s Salt Palace Convention Center near the 200 W entrance. The piece celebrates the history of the Convention Center in addition to the topography to the west of Salt Lake City, the Salt Flats that are the remnants of dry lake bed. The Convention Center is the 3rd building named the Salt Palace that has existed in Salt Lake City. The first building hosted a velodrome, a bicycle racing track, and the second building housed the Salt Lake Golden Eagles hockey team. Both buildings are referenced in the piece through the bicycle and the eagle soaring above the Wasatch Front mountain range and the Salt Lake City skyline.

The piece was created on 8 panels that were 8’ x 4’ that were attached together
Roughly 100 rolls of duct tape was used in the creation of the piece. Of the 100 rolls, roughly 70 were North Carolina Tar Heals duct tape. The North Carolina logo was removed and the left over scraps were used for the blue color that can be found next to the lavender on the Salt Flats area of the mural
